DIY: For the Creative Mama

Projects for Baby by the Creative Mama

Yes, if you're new to sewing, you'll probably have some difficulty at some point with a new sewing project, but please don't discredit your skills and toss everything you've done. My first ever sewing project was a little crib quilt I sewed by hand for my first son. I took great care to sew it well (at least I thought I did a great job when I held it up to get a look at the final project), but much to my chagrin, after washing it, it fell to pieces! I nearly cried.

However, I didn't let that stop me. I learned from it. I learned to make my stitches tighter and smaller. I learned to use at least a 1/4" hem allowance. I learned to pre-wash my fabrics BEFORE sewing them so they didn't shrink when I washed them. That terrible experience taught me a lot and enabled me to go on to make many quilts for many babies across the USA...I even sold a couple.

So don't get discouraged. If you have questions, ask me, or ask a friend or family member who has more sewing experience. You Tube has a lot of video tutorials as well. There are tons of resources to help you out!

Here's a great wet bag tutorial. I'll be using this as soon as my fabric comes in! Super cute and useful.

Remember, wet bags can be used for a number of things, not just cloth diapers! You can use them for swimsuits, after a day at the pool or beach, for wet baby clothes (hey, accidents happen, whether in cloth or disposable diapers), etc.

Cool site for making your own cloth diapers. I'm for sure going to try at least a few of these. I'm thinking the AIOs might be nice for hectic days, or when the baby is staying with others who may not be hip to the cloth diaper scene. ;-)

Here's a sweet, inexpensive and adorable baby shower gift idea from my own blog that incorporates DIY burp cloths and a cute "two peas in a pod" washcloth idea. You can change it up as you like. Just have fun with it!

Have fun sewing and put your own positive energy into the things you create!
